The Princess Switch's Vanessa Hudgens is receiving backlash after posting Instagram photos while in South Queensferry. Social media users are accusing Vanessa of ignoring Scotland's lockdown rules.
Let's rewind.
For those who don't know, Vanessa is currently in Scotland to film Netflix's The Princess Switch 3. The crew and actors and actresses arrived in Scotland before Christmas prior to the lockdown in Scotland. In the filming locations, social distancing rules are in place to comply with Scotland's COVID-19 restrictions.
Fast forward, and Vanessa posted a few photos of herself in South Queensferry with the Forth Rail Bridge in the background.
How did fans react?
The majority of social media users are accusing Vanessa of ignoring Scotland's restrictions that are in place during the pandemic.
I "Does Vanessa Hudgens know our whole country is on lockdown???"
I "How’s Vanessa Hudgens allowed to fly into Scotland and kick about taking photos in Queensferry but I cannae go see my gran???"
I "do you think vanessa hudgens just thinks scotland is uninhabited because she's gone there pretending there's not a pandemic and the whole country is in lockdown"
However, other fans are quickly rushing to Vanessa's defence, citing that her actions are within Scotland's lockdown restrictions.
I "Vanessa Hudgens getting hate for going on a government allowed daily walk & posting a picture whilst out on it which 100% of the public are perfectly also in their rights to do? Also the film is literally giving WORK to a lot of people in the arts in Scotland after a tough year."
I "Apparently some of my fellow-countrymen can't grasp that there's nothing wrong with Vanessa Hudgens taking a selfie in front of the Forth Rail Bridge... She's here to make a movie, which is nice for the economy. She's _been_ here since before the lockdown began, and hasn't quit."
I "why is everyone so quick to jump down vanessa hudgens’ throat when filming and tv are exempt from uk restrictions??? lmao shes filming and she went outside god forbid"
Meanwhile, other fans are pointing out the misogyny that is taking place, citing that Tom Cruise and Robert Pattison were both in the UK to film their respective movies "Mission: Impossible 7" and "The Batman" during the pandemic, and didn't receive backlash for it.
I "PEOPLE REALLY TRYING TO HATE ON VANESSA HUDGENS FOR WORKING IN SCOTLAND?? If you do then please @ your frustrations to Robert Pattinson & his crew & also tell Tom Cruise to 'gO hOME'. BOTH are filming movies in the UK/have done over the last few months. The freaking [misogyny]."
What exactly are the lockdown restrictions in Scotland?
Within lockdown rules, film and TV production are legally allowed to continue operating, with the "minimum number of people needed to operate safely and effectively" in Scotland.
Furthermore, the public is able to leave their house for "exercise, walking, cycling [...] up to 5 miles from the boundary of your local authority area" provided the rules of meeting other households are followed.
The Princess Switch 3 is set to release around Christmas 2021.
