On January 12, Twitch streamer "Valkyrae" (Rachel Hofstetter) revealed that her goal is to "grow" her YouTube female audience in 2021.

Check out Valkyrae's tweet below:

"My YouTube audience since boys believe girls don’t exist in the gaming industry :’)"

"Goal is to grow my female audience this year! ladies plz i love you where are you what do you want from me I’ll give you anything plz step on me"

Valkyrae then attaches a screenshot of her official YouTube channel demographics for the previous month. The statistics show that her audience was split with 55.4% being male and 44.6% being female.

One female Twitter user replied to Valkyrae's post, tweeting:

"That percentage is actually crazy!! I feel like I always see low numbers for female viewers. This is really nice to see :)"

In response, Valkyrae replied:

"A year ago it was at 25%😅 glad to see its growing overall as well!"

Valkyrae currently has over 2.8 million subscribers on YouTube and 1.6 million followers on Twitter.

Fun Fact: Valkyrae's "Among Us" YouTube videos have been amassing between 1-2 million views per video.

Has there recently been a rise of female gamers?

According to Statista, female gamers account for almost "41 percent of all gamers in the United States" in 2020.

Data commissioned by Google also states that "the female video gaming community grew up 19%" in 2019.
