On October 18, Stranger Things' official writers, Stranger Writers, finally gave in to fans' demands and sorted the Stranger Things' characters into Harry Potter houses.
After Stranger Writers revealed that the iconic movie, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002) was somehow related to Stranger Things season 4, fans went wild.
After a few guesses as to what this might mean for Stranger Things season 4, with some fans guessing that it had to do with how Harry could speak Parseltongue (Will, anybody?), or how Harry could see into Lord Voldemort's mind. (Perhaps, Eleven?)
Anyway, fans soon started to demand Stranger Writers to sort their beloved characters into the Harry Potter houses and Stranger Writers finally tweeted this out:
I "i can do a sorting for the characters but y'all are not going to like the answers"
Of course, there was an overwhelming affirmative from fans, which led to Stranger Writers conceding:
I “pls stand by this is going to take a hot minute”
I “*puts on sorting hat*”
And these are the final results.
Those sorted into Gryffindor, "the house of those brave at heart", include:
Steve Harrington (Joe Keery)
Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard)
Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke)
Bob Newby (Sean Astin)
Karen Wheeler (Cara Buono)
Alexei (Alec Utgoff)
Kali (Linnea Berthelsen)
Those sorted into Hufflepuff, "the house of the just and loyal", include:
Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown)
Will Byers (Noah Schnapp)
Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder)
Mr. Clarke (Randy Havens)
Those sorted into Ravenclaw, "the house of the wise and creative", include:
Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo)
Jonathan Byers (Charlie R. Heaton)
Erica Sinclair (Priah Ferguson)
Murray Bauman (Brett Gelman)
And finally, those sorted into Slytherin, "the house of ambition and great determination", include:
Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin)
Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer)
Max Mayfield (Sadie Sink)
Jim Hopper (David Harbour)
Billy Hargrove (Dacre Montgomery)
With that being said, Stranger Writers admits that some of the characters could've ended up in different houses altogether. For example, Hopper could've been a Hufflepuff, Joyce could've been a Ravenclaw, Mike and Erica could've been Slytherins, and finally, Billy could've been a Gryffindor.
But the reason why they aren't is because of actions they took during Stranger Things season 1-3 that marked them firmly in the houses they're currently in.
Of course, there were Stranger Things and Harry Potter fans who weren't happy with the results.
These fans were adamant that Mike "could never be a Slytherin". They argued that in no circumstances had he displayed Slytherin traits, and that "he'd put anyone before him." Another also slammed Stranger Things for not knowing their own characters, and another asked whether they "even know anything about Harry Potter".
To which Stranger Writers responded with a chill, "yeah, it’s one of my favorite series".
On the other hand, other fans defended Stranger Writers on their choices. They reminded these fans that the Harry Potter houses had more than one specific trait, and even then, it didn't explicitly mean the character will be in that house. They bring up the example of Hermione, who was "the brightest witch of her age, but [...] was a Gryffindor."
Stranger Writers responded to all the criticisms and tweeted:
I "I said you weren’t going to like it and I was right 😂"
I "I stand by my sorting and I’m glad I did it because it was fun. And I am also happy to see the discussion it has sparked. Also, to close this thread: Dr. Brenner is a Ravenclaw."
Stranger Things season 4 is expected to start shooting early next year in January 2020.
