Stranger Things' star, David Harbour (Jim Hopper), is set to play the role of 'Alexei' in Marvel Cinematic Universe's upcoming film, Black Widow. And fans are stunned by the irony of it all.

First of all, who's David Harbour?

In the Netflix Stranger Things series, David Harbour is known for his role as Jim Hopper AKA Eleven's (Millie Bobby Brown) father figure. He's the Chief of Police in Hawkins, and he's the one who took Eleven in and sheltered her.

[SPOILER ALERT]

In season 3, Hopper and Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) captures a Russian scientist named Alexei, who turned out to be quite "innocent" and all he wanted was an "American dream". Sadly, though, both Alexei and Hopper meets a devastating end.

However, not all seems to be lost since the ending credits suggests that an American is being held prisoner... Hopper anybody? So fans still have their fingers crossed.

On the other hand, Alexei is clearly dead, so after fans binged watch the season, they flocked to Twitter to toast their slurpies to Alexei. Many even said that he didn't deserve such a sad ending.

So with the news that David Harbour is returning to the big screen as a character with the same name as the poor beloved Russian scientist, fans are clearly seeing the irony of it all!

Due to this, #DavidHopper is trending on Twitter.

Of course, the ironic name aside, many fans are actually excited to see David in Black Widow. Stranger Things is David's best-known role so far, and with this new announcement, it seems that his career is just going full steam ahead and fans can't wait.

So far, it seems that David was a pretty good casting choice for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, wouldn't you agree?

Now, wouldn't it be great if Millie Bobby Brown also joined the MCU after David? Although she did refute the rumour that she was actually cast in the MCU (a rumour that started when the head of Marvel Studio, Kevin Feige, said that it would be "fun" to see Millie in the MCU).

I mean, Millie did say that she wasn't in the MCU "as of right now," in her Instagram Live, which we take to say that she'd love to take a role if it was offered to her.

Wouldn't it be great to see her act alongside David on the big screen? Perhaps the MCU could up their irony by making her a stepdaughter or something similar to it.

Now that would be something to talk about.

Black Widow is expected to be released next year on 1 May 2020.
