YouTube star Lilly Singh AKA IISuperwomanII has just uploaded another vlog on her YouTube Channel, and during her ‘Ask Lilly’ segment, she answers a fan’s question; ’What if I get scared to be myself?’.
Lilly explains she can personally relate to this question, especially after everything that has happened to her this past year.
Of course, she’s most likely referring to her newly green-lit late-night show called A Little Late with Lilly Singh that was announced in March and will air on NBC this coming September.
...And most probably the fact that she came out as bisexual on Twitter back in February. Which amazingly makes her the only woman and only LGBTQ person to currently host a late-night show on a major TV network.
Not only that, but Lilly was also a tomboy growing up in an Indian culture, has a YouTube career and is bisexual. So a lot of her life was her thinking, ‘What if I’m scared to be myself?’.
“A lot of my life has been, ‘What if I’m scared to be myself? What if people don’t think I’m funny? What if, what if, what if…’”
In response to this question, Lilly explains that it helps her to think about things in a very practical way.
That is, how many people are there in the world? Over 7 billion people. And not a single person is the same. Everyone is completely different, and not just from a biological standpoint where their DNA or genetics are different.
It's the life experiences that's what makes us who we are.
“Me and you right now, this moment, we've had so many life experiences that have made us who we are.
"I would react to anything different than how you would. I understand things differently than how you do. I feel a way about things different to how you do.”
Lilly continues to say, “Even if both took the exact same class and we had the exact same day, we would still not think about things the same way, and we would still not act the same way in certain situations."
And for this, Lilly thinks it's in fact, one of the most beautiful things about humans. She says we can "impact people and the world in a way that nobody else can, through our strengths and through our flaws."
With this amazing mindset, Lilly says that whenever she feels afraid to be herself, she shoves that thought away and says that she will be herself because no one else is like her, so if she’s not herself, then the world and everyone else will be missing out on her.
“During some of the hardest times in my life, that is what I told myself before I do scary things. No one else will do it like you."
"Love yourself show up for your own life don’t be scared to be yourself; you are goddamn beautiful.”
Of course, fans are already used to Lilly and her inspiring advice, and that is no different for this video.
“That speech of your's [should] be read out loud in every school assembly every single day!”
“Thank you for posting this. Im in high school and all of a sudden, I was trying to change who I am recently so I really needed this”
“Thank you so much! i really needed to hear that right now! HUGGSSS”
Words can go a long way, and we love that Lilly is using it to spread inspiration and positivity. Who else agrees?
