Harry Styles is trending with the hashtag #harrystylesgoingtojailparty, and loyal fans are rushing to twitter, anxious for the hiatus One Direction singer.
But it was just a false alarm.
Fans soon found out that a lot of those tweeting with the hashtag included fancams of K-pop groups dancing on stage.
Uh, what? We hear you say. What does K-pop have anything to do with Harry Styles? And why do they want Harry to go to jail?
Good question. Let us explain.
After a little more digging, it appears that it was K-pop stans who launched the hashtag into the trending page, but it wasn't them who started the entire mess.
It's actually HBO's newest series, Euphoria, that was the cause for all of this.
Here's a quick gist about the series: This new controversial series aims to depict, realistically, the reason as to why teenagers turn to drug use and sex, and they're not afraid to use extremely graphic adult content to deliver the message.
Basically, they're pushing the boundaries as far as they can go. And of course, this would put them on the direct path to controversy.
And this time, it was the fault of the latest episode that was aired that drove One Directions' fans into a massive frenzy.
Yes.
In season 1, episode 3, Rue (Zendaya) gives a backstory to the audience about one of her classmates named Kat (Barbie Ferreria). Apparently, she used to write X-rated fanfiction about One Direction's Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, AKA Larry Stylinson.
It's here that Rue narrates one very intimate scene about the two band members. Yes, a mature scene. Not only that, but there was even an animation of the scene that played out on-screen.
...And cue the horrified fans.
In a heartbeat, they all took to Twitter in fiery outrage, with others wondering if the scene got approved by either Harry or Louis.
This one fan summed all our thoughts perfectly in this tweet:
With so many fans bombarding him about this scene, Louis finally responded to the tweet.
And when fans read this, they were even more outraged. Check out the tweets below:
Harry Styles has yet to respond to this situation. But fans soon found out that Harry follows Zendaya on Instagram and a Euphoria consultant named Jeremy O Harris,
Oof. The story is getting wilder.
Because now, fans are pointing their fingers towards Harry and the fact that he might've given approval for this hugely controversial scene. Especially when you think about his easy-going personality and humour.
(Also, please note: No one knows the full story. His rep declined to comment. So, don't be jumping into conclusions!)
Anyway, so Louis' fans started the #harrystylesgoingtojailparty hashtag because they were furious that Harry had apparently allowed this whole scene to happen in the first place.
And along the way, K-pop stans randomly jumped in and very helpfully caused the hashtag to trend. Which of course, caused a lot of confusion, making people think that they were the ones who started the hashtag since all the public saw were the fancams...
...So the public then jumped to the conclusion that K-pop stans were just jealous of Harry Styles.
And so, an accidental fanwar commenced, with Harry Styles' fans coming to Harry's defence and creating the hashtag #KpopIsGoingToJailParty along with #HarryWeSupportYou and #lovingharryparty.
And that's what happened.
So, what do you think? Do you think Euphoria received approval from Harry? Or do you think everyone's just overreacting and that the scene wasn't even a big deal?
Let us know your thoughts.
