Fans are calling out American singer-songwriter Melanie for apparently taking credit for BTS’ success.

An old Instagram post made by singer-songwriter Melanie in April 2019 is circulating social media as it seems like she's taking credit for writing BTS' recent song ‘Boy With Luv’.
Check out what she wrote in her Instagram post:
“Over the last 10 yrs working in music, I’ve been shit on & been told I’m “just too extra”. I’ve secured MAJOR singles that never came out.
I survived a decade of career beat downs & hard lessons. Even through all of that, I knew one day I’d see one of my songs do the damn thing.
Well here I am. Here we are in Times Sq under a massive screen advertising my work! I did it without the help of anyone except my own pen & my husband @iamlindgren, who co-wrote it with me.
And ARMYs (BTS fans) are taking major issue with this post since it seems like she's taking quite a lot of credit for the song’s success. Not to mention the post also makes it seem like Melanie's the main writer of the song.
That's not all. She also called BTS her co-writers when it actually appears to be the other way round. At least, in the song credits, Melanie’s name appears after BTS’ members, RM and Jung Kook.
Since the BTS' members came first, it makes it likely that they contributed more to the song than she did, right?
So, what did BTS' fans say in response to the Instagram post? Check it out below:
“did she... call bts.... Co-writers??”
“She just said [BTS] are her cowriters? And not the contrary? She-”
“This is what arrogance looks like. I don't wanna be rude, but please Never, i repeat never try to take credit from our boys. They worked very hard since their debut & someone can't just come and call bts "co writers" of their own song. “
“Let's be real. Even if it wasnt boy with luv that got released, we would still get the job done. Streaming, charting and breaking records. We would still do it for our boys. She's so arrogant for claiming that everything happened bc of "HER" song.”
Yep. Fans weren't happy. At all.
So, who is Melanie Joy Fontana? Let us explain.
Impressively enough, Melanie Joy Fontana is an American singer-songwriter who is signed to Universal and has contributed as a writer for songs made for the likes of Britney Spears, Justin Bieber and the Chainsmokers.
Not only that, but Melanie often works with Big Hit Entertainment, a South Korean entertainment company that manages very popular K-pop groups such as BTS.
With this massive connection, Melanie has co-written songs for other popular K-pop groups such as f(x), AOA, Girls Generations and for the recently popular K-pop reality talent competition, Produce 101.
Also, this isn’t the first time Melanie co-wrote songs for BTS. Besides ‘Boy With Luv’, Melanie has contributed to two other BTS songs called ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Mikrokosmos’
