"Did we really just trend FAKE comeback worldwide in less than 3 minutes? We truly are clowns." An ARMY fan tweets.

BTS fans, ARMYs, accidentally trended the hashtag #HEAR_YOURSELF, believing that it was a comeback from BTS.
Unfortunately, though, it turned out to be fake.
Oof. But let's rewind.
Who exactly is BTS? Well, BTS is one of the most popular K-pop boy groups, and their fans are called ARMYs. In K-pop terms, a "comeback" is the debut of a new release and all the promotions that come with it.
So when news of a comeback was brought to the fans attention, it sent them in a frenzy with thousands going to Twitter and talking about it with the hashtag. Soon enough, with many ARMYs tweeting about it, the hashtag soon trended.
However, it quickly came to light that there wasn't actually a BTS comeback. When fans realised that they'd been duped, they saw the humour in it and took to Twitter to laugh about it:
Yes, the ARMYs found out the truth almost immediately - an impressive 3 minutes in fact. However, the hashtag still continued to trend for over an hour after.
Why?
Well, check out this hilarious tweet that this ARMY fan made who summed it up perfectly:
Despite the comeback being fake news, ARMYs didn't let the trending go to waste. They quickly used the opportunity to spread word about BTS' songs 'Epiphany' and 'Intro Persona' and called for other fans to show support for BTS by streaming their songs.
Meanwhile, other ARMYs were disappointed that the hashtag managed to trend with so much support from fans when they believed that all this attention should be used to "focus on voting instead".
These fans are referring to the 'MTS Hottest Summer Superstar' award where ARMY fans can vote by tweeting #MTVHottest followed by the name of their favourite artist.
Wait, who's in the running for the 'MTS Hottest Summer Superstar' award?
Currently, huge celebrities such as Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes are on the list. However, BTS is currently taking the lead with over 6.4 million votes and fellow K-Pop group, Blackpink, is in third place with over 2.2 million votes.
The vote closes on 19 August with the winner to be announced on 24 August on MTV Music.
Many K-pop fans are ecstatic that 2 K-pop groups managed to be contenders this year, and looking at the current votes, it seems like BTS will steal the crown.
And all of this is mainly down to BTS' impressive fandom.
Even Halsey, an American singer who collaborated with BTS on their song 'Boys With Luv', hugely praised the BTS' ARMYs fandom.
And the ARMYs' response?
Let's just say that they love her.
