Joshua Bassett's DEVIOUS Plan To Get Fans To Donate To Charity Through His Merch

"People will often say, 'I don't have any money for charity', yet when their favorite artist releases merch, they're able to buy it." Joshua Bassett says.

On January 21, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' Joshua Bassett (Ricky) announced that "100%" of his merch proceeds will go to a chosen charity of fans' choosing.

In an Instagram post, Joshua explains that fans will be able to choose from one of the five charities selected when they check out from the merch store at "no extra cost".

I "Hey, you. This is what's up. So, my merch store is out but here's the catch. 100% of my proceeds will go to the charity of your choosing."

I "So, at no extra cost, when you check out, there will be 5 charity options that you can choose from. Whichever one resonates with you, you click on that and all of my proceeds will go to that charity."

Joshua then reveals that his inspiration behind this was the fact that many people would say they didn't have any money to donate, and yet when their "favourite artist" releases merchandise, people would "buy it at the drop of a hat".

I "I did this because a lot of people will often say, 'I don't have any money for charity', yet when their favorite artist releases merch, they're able to buy it at the drop of a hat. And so I figured, why not find a way for people to give both and get both."

In a handwritten letter on his website, Joshua talks more about the merchandise, saying that he had been "so lucky" so he wanted to give back and "shine a light on organizations and causes" that are important to him.

I "I've been so lucky to get to do what I love everyday... and I really wanted to do something with this merch to give back and shine a light on organizations and causes that are so important to me."

The five charities are The Young Feminist Fund (provides resources to young feminist organizers), Jack.org (trains young leaders to revolutionize mental health), The Sunrise Movement (aims to stop climate change and racial inequality), Teenline (provides emotional support to youth) and finally, A Long Walk Home (aims to end violence against all girls and women).

In other news, Joshua has since recovered from a surgery that he undertook last Thursday.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' season 2 is currently filming. The season will centre around a Beauty and the Beast musical production.
