"shooting a mv in the desert is no joke...." Joshua Bassett says.
19 January 2021 by Fonticha Tran
On January 19, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' Joshua Bassett (Ricky) revealed the behind the scenes of his "Lie, Lie, Lie" music video.

Let's rewind.
For those who don't know, Joshua recently released a new song, "Lie, Lie, Lie" about a friend who had thrown him "under the bus". (Fans can read more here). At the time of writing, the song has amassed over 3.9 million views on YouTube in just under a week.
In an Instagram post, Joshua reveals that he shot the music video in a desert:
I "shooting a mv in the desert is no joke... LIELIELIE BTS OUT NOWWW!!!"
Fast forward, and Joshua released a behind the scenes footage of the music video. In the video, Joshua shows a small leg wound which he sustained after accidentally falling on a cholla plant (a type of cactus).
Joshua is then seen in pain as he asks someone offscreen to "just rip" the thorn out.
I "Just rip it out, just rip it out."
Afterwards, Joshua explains how he managed to topple into the cactus.
I "I was skipping around, you know those 'skippy skip' for the video."
The scene then cuts to Joshua insisting the thorn had pierced into his bone.
I "Oh, god. Oh my god, that's like in my bone."
I "We're in the desert, so sometimes you fall into a... very sharp plant."
Joshua then jokes in his YouTube description that he had lost a fight to a cactus.
I "watch to see me from sept 2020 getting in a fight with a cactus and losing big time !"
Does Joshua Bassett visit the national park, Joshua Tree, often?
For those who don't know, Joshua Tree is an American national park in California, near Palm Strings. The park includes parts of two deserts; the Mojave and the Colorado.
In a previous YouTube video, Joshua reveals that he comes to the national park whenever he can, and has even worked on a few songs from his EP in a studio there.
I "I come to Joshua Tree whenever I can. I wrote and worked on some of the songs from my EP out here."
Joshua describes the national park as "peaceful", and a place where he can be in his "own little bubble".
I "It's absolutely beautiful and peaceful and there's no noise. No one can hear you so it's kind of nice to be in your own little bubble.
I "[There's] such an incredible energy. That's so important, I think, to be in the right headspace when you're making music and just dump out creativity."
He then adds that he attempts to make "as much music" as he can during his stays at Joshua Tree.
I "It's like any ideas that I have, it's all spontaneous. I hop around from instrument to instrument, make as much music as I can in the 2 or 3 days that I'm here."
I "The fact that nobody can hear and you can jam until literally the sun comes up, it's freeing."
Fun fact: Sam Fisher who directed 'Lie, Lie, Lie' also filmed a mini-documentary of Joshua Bassett, which Joshua posted to his Instagram.
In other news, Joshua has recovered from the surgery that he undertook last Thursday.
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' season 2 is currently filming. The season will centre around a Beauty and the Beast musical production.
