On January 16, Jeffree Star revealed to fans that he is going to sue a mobile app for using his "likeness" in their makeup game.
It all started when a fan tweeted to Jeffree to inform him that a mobile game was using Jeffree's "likeness". The app is called "Eye Art: Perfect Makeup Artist" by Fingerfun Games, which allows players to create different eye makeup. It currently has over 1 million downloads.
Fast forward, and a fan tweeted out to Jeffree an advertisement for the game:
I "@JeffreeStar hey they are using your likeness in a mobile game. Just saw this ad on Facebook"
Jeffree quote tweeted it and said:
I "What the f***!!!! First lawsuit of 2021, coming right up"
For context, the 3D animation character in the advertisement has the exact same tattoos on their neck as Jeffree. One is the word "Delicious", and the other is a portrait of a female person.
Fun fact: The female tattoo is a portrait of Jeffree's great grandmother that was taken in the 1920s.
How did fans react?
One fan didn't understand why Jeffree needed to send out a lawsuit. This fan pointed out that Jeffree already had "enough money".
I "When you are in the public eye and a major influencer you are going to get this. Why have a lawsuit out on them. You’ve got enough money as it is"
Jeffree immediately replied to the fan, saying that "it's not about the money", it's about the lawfulness of using his brand without permission.
I "It’s not about the money. The issue is using my face, brand, etc without my permission which is illegal. Doesn’t matter how much or how little someone has, it’s just NOT right."
