On January 15, James Charles slammed PinkNews, calling them a "joke" after they posted a "clickbait" article about him. The next day, PinkNews issued a public apology to James Charles in an "open letter".
Let's rewind.
To those who don't know, PinkNews is a news site that focuses on news surrounding the LGBTQ+ community, marketing their brand specifically to them.
Anyway, the article in question had reportedly been posted onto PinkNews' Snapshot story. The cover of the article was a photoshopped picture of James, edited in a way that made him look unflattering. The caption PinkNews used was, "What happened to James? 😱"
Fast forward, and a fan brought this article to James' attention. James then slammed the news site, tweeting:
I "I’m so sick of this. @PinkNews is a joke. They claim to be a LGBTQ+ news outlet yet choose to clickbait ugly edited photos & completely false titles about me literally EVERY OTHER DAY instead of reporting about actual things going on in our community 🥴"
How did PinkNews respond?
The following day, on January 16, PinkNews admitted their mistake, and apologized to James in an "open letter". The CEO, Benjamin Cohen, responded to James' tweet, saying:
I "Hi James, from the team @PinkNews."
The tweet included a link to an article, titled "An open letter to YouTuber James Charles". This time, the cover photo used was an accurate picture of James.
Here's a small snippet of their apology:
I "We made an oversight on a recent Snapchat story about you. The story did not align with our core values and has been removed."

PinkNews then stated that their "values" are to "inform, inspire change and empower others to be themselves" and that the article was not any of this. They then ended the apology to James with:
I "Stay fierce, sister."
