On December 31, Beauty YouTuber James Charles tweeted out to fans that if they're drunk, they shouldn't drive back home. However, if they can't afford an Uber or Lyft, then they can tweet him and he'll pay it for them.

Check out James' tweet below:

"⚠️It is fine to get lit tonight & celebrate, but DO NOT F*CKING DARE put lives in danger by getting behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking. Call an Uber or Lyft. If you can’t afford it, tweet me & I’ll call for you. NO EXCUSES. Don’t take away someone’s 2020 before it begins."

Fans, of course, flooded the comments section, praising James for using his platform in such a thoughtful way. They also admired how much James cared for his fans, to the point where he was willing to pay for their ride home so that they'd be safe. (Those few who mocked James' tweet were swiftly shut down by fans.)

"let me just say that it is very thoughtful of you to use your platform for this kind of stuff. [...] you are a very considerate person 🖤"

"this is what influencers should be for, you are amazing James 🖤"

Some fans even followed James' example by offering rides to those who are drunk and can't afford to pay for a ride home.

"If anyone needs a ride tonight my # is ***-***-**** My dog and I will gladly come get you. Please please please just be safe. I will even take you back to your car tomorrow if needed."

Meanwhile, others were linking websites to transport services that offered free transport on the evening of New Year's Eve to New Year's Day. To give an example, around Santa Clara County, the VTA offered free rides on its buses and trains on New Year's Eve and into New Year's Day morning.
