On December 11, Beauty YouTuber James Charles revealed that he knew he was going to "get dragged " on social media for his outfit at the Met Gala 2019.
In a YouTube video, James talked about his scandalous moments throughout his career, and that included his outfit at the Met Gala 2019.
James first clarifies that it was "so much fun" and that he was "so grateful to be invited".
I "I never in a million years would have thought that I would be invited to the Met Gala. The Met Gala is for the A-list fashionable celebrities and I am not that."
I "It was so much fun. It was an amazing, amazing night and I was so grateful to be invited."
However, he wasn't so thrilled on his outfit as he didn't think it fit in with the theme of the night.
I "My outfit, on the other hand, was not my favorite. [...] I got the opportunity to work with Alexander Wang for the Met Gala. He is, by far, to this day, one of my favorite designers. I have so many of his pieces in my collection."
I "However, I just did not feel like my outfit that I wore to the Met Gala hit the theme very well. I definitely felt out of place if that makes sense."
James then explains that the theme of the Met Gala that night was "camp" AKA over-the-top outfits. Other celebrities had much more extravagant and colorful outfits as opposed to his simple black satin pants and poncho made out of safety pins.
I "The theme was camp which basically just means over-the-top colorful, very, very dramatic and I just didn’t feel like this outfit made sense for the event."
Although James was excited to be at the event, he revealed that he couldn't "enjoy it fully" because he knew he was "going to log onto social media after the fact and get dragged" for his outfit.
I "I definitely got clowned for it and it definitely made me sad because it was such an incredible experience but I wasn’t able to enjoy it fully just because I knew I was going to log onto social media after the fact and get dragged. Which I did."
