On November 19, James Charles retweeted a fan's post saying that they're happy they can finally fit into a Sisters Apparel hoodie, and James is getting backlash for it.
Let's rewind.
A fan excitedly tweeted out a picture of himself donning a Sisters Apparel hoodie, revealing that he finally lost enough weight to fit into it.
When James saw the tweet, he retweeted it along with his congratulations:
I "this makes me so happy 😭 congratulations angel I’m so proud of you!!!!! and you look fabulous."
However, fans quickly took issue with the fact that the teenage fan had to lose weight to fit into the Sisters apparel, and slammed James' line for not being inclusive of everyone.
Check out their tweets below:
I "Why not just make more inclusive sizing instead of making a young kid feel like he need to loose weight just to show his support for you..."
I "It shouldn’t be a case of “congratulations angel” .. make your merch fit anyone no matter their size."
I "Ok but why not include all inclusive sizing. That’s sad. That he had to feel this way in the first place. Shame on James Charles for not being size inclusive."
However, other fans immediately leapt to James' defence, stating that the Sisters Apparel had sizes up to 3XL. They also retorted by voicing their opinion that James is one of the most "inclusive influencer out there".
Amidst all the backlash, the original fan addressed the controversy in multiple tweets, even replying to some of the angry fans.
Here's the gist: The fan had bought a smaller size on purpose. He tweeted out that he was "already losing weight", and it "isn't about the size of the hoodie". He explained that he started to lose weight to ensure that he didn't "have a heart attack by the time [he's] 20".
Finally, the fan ended with this tweet:
I "GUYS I LITERALLY DONT WANT TO REPLY TO EVERYONE BUT I WAS TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT TO BETTER MYSELF AND BE HEALTHY AND THE HOODIE IS A BONUS 🙌🏻 ITS VAIN TO LOSE WEIGHT FOR CLOTHES, Y’ALL"
