Beauty YouTuber James Charles is actually mentioned in students' textbooks, and fans are freaking out.
That's right.
Check out the fan's tweet here. Basically, it's a screenshot of a textbook page with a paragraph that reads:
"Beauty advertisers are becoming more inclusive to people besides women. Beauty ads from L’Oréal and Cover Girl now feature young men, because a growing number of males are using some form of cosmetics."
"Cover Girl’s latest “cover boy” happens to be a big influencer on makeup in social media.”
Advertising and Integrated Brand Promotion [8th edition] (2019)
What was the class that used the textbook?
Well, according to the excited fan, the textbook is for an Advertising class and the book is titled: "Advertising and Integrated Brand Promotion 8th edition (2019)", published by Cengage Learning.
Although it doesn’t say Jame's name specifically, it’s pretty obvious that it's referencing him. After all, James did make history by being CoverGirl’s first CoverBoy.
Anyway, when James saw the tweet, he retweeted it and wrote:
I “Yoooo what?! I’m in a TEXTBOOK???!!!! That’s so cool if you think about it like damn... we made history as a family. I love you guys.”
Oh, and get this: turns he wasn't mentioned in just one textbook. Another excited fan saw the tweet and quickly commented that James was also in their textbook.
Check out this other fan's tweet here.
And this time, there's a picture of James himself, grinning back in the black and white photo.
Yep.
This student's textbook was none other than "Gender: Ideas, Interactions, Institutions [second edition] (2018)", published by W. W. Norton & Company. The passage reads:
“The makeup company CoverGirl, for example, hired James Charles to be its first male-identified ambassador…”
Gender: Ideas, Interactions, Institutions [2nd edition] (2018)
And under his picture, the sentence reads:
"A brand’s willingness to hire James Charles - CoverGirl’s first CoverBoy - indicates growing support of genderqueer performances."
Gender: Ideas, Interactions, Institutions [2nd edition] (2018)
Of course, James also saw the tweet and responded, freaking out:
I “What the heck!!! Omg”
And fans? Let's just say they were a little more than excited:
I “lesson of the day: work hard enough until you appear in a text book”
I “omg ur literally iconic i love u so much”
I “Don't stop til you're in ALL the textbooks”
And while reading fans' comments, it turns out these textbooks were used for a range of different classes, including Gender Studies, Advertising, Sociology and even American History.
