On January 5, Beauty YouTuber James Charles uploaded a YouTube tutorial for the "TikTok GuyLiner Makeup". This comes after a recent TikTok trend of boys attempting makeup for the first time.

 

 

Let's rewind.

 

For those who don't know, a major trend is currently circulating on TikTok, where boys attempt makeup or eyeliner for the first time. James quickly found out about it, and uploaded a tutorial on how to apply makeup in a YouTube video titled: "TikTok GuyLiner Makeup!"

 

James then expressed his enthusiasm about the "GuyLiner Makeup" trend on TikTok, saying that it was "so cool".

I “Hello, Sisters! Or should I say, 'Hello, Brothers' for today? There has been a major [...] trend recently on TikTok and also just in general of boys trying out makeup or eyeliner for the first time."

I "Which I think is so cool, I am so here for it. And I’ve been getting a lot of different messages recently from guys who want to try out makeup, or want to do eyeliner but don’t really know how to or where to start."

​

 

James clarified that the video wasn't aimed just at boys, but for "anybody who wants to start experimenting with makeup".

I "And I thought it would be [...] fun to film basically a beginner makeup tutorial for anybody who want to start experimenting with makeup."

​

I "I called it a ‘guyliner’ video just because that’s the trend, but it’s really for anybody who is a beginner artist and just wanted to learn and pick up some helpful tips and tricks.

James then revealed to fans that there has been an increase of "guy followers" on his social media platforms.

I “As it’s becoming more and more popular for guys to try out makeup for the first time, I’ve definitely noticed an increase in my guy followers on social media which is super, super exciting."

 

​

James has also been getting more questions from boys asking for makeup tips and tricks, but James had to admit that his channel isn't "exactly beginning makeup friendly".

I "But my channel isn’t exactly beginner makeup friendly. [...] I’ve been getting so many questions and comments [...] from different guys wanting to learn how to do their makeup for the first time."

As a result, James then uploaded his recent video which is targeted at beginners.

 

​

I "I thought it would be [fun] to go back to the basics and do a [...] simple ‘guyliner’ or just a boy makeup tutorial. Of course, this video isn’t necessary just for boys. No matter what you identify as, [...] it's definitely gonna be the perfect video to start you off into your makeup journey."

In the tutorial, viewers can learn how to choose their foundation and concealer shade, how to touch up their hairlines with a brow definer, and finally, how to achieve the “perfect winged liner”.
