On January 19, Beauty YouTuber James Charles uploaded a cover of "drivers license" by Olivia Rodrigo, and fans are impressed with the improvement in his singing skills!

​

Let's rewind.

For those who don't know, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series' Olivia Rodrigo recently released a new debut single, "drivers license", which has gone on to break several records. At the time of writing, the song has amassed over 48 million views in just two weeks.

​

Fast forward, and on the day before James uploaded the cover, James revealed that he was nervous about posting the video.

The next day, James admits to fans that he was nervous to post the cover due to being "made fun of so much" from comments dragging his singing abilities.

I "I was really nervous to post todays video & am still shaking after uploading... music is one of my biggest passions but getting made fun of so much (sometimes rightfully so lol) has made me horrified to explore it more... I'm really proud of this vid & hope you guys like it"

Fun fact: In the cover, James changes the pronouns from female to male.

This isn't the first time James sang "drivers license".

On January 14, James had uploaded a TikTok video where he and a group of friends sang an acapella version of "drivers license"

In the TikTok video description, James writes:

In a comment below, James clarifies to fans that there are just two households mixing.

​

This TikTok video comes after James received backlash for collaborating with other influencers during the pandemic with a lack of social distancing or masks present.

James, however, has since responded to the scandal.
