On October 20, James Charles tweeted out a parody of the Dobre Brothers' Meet and Greet at his own Morphe's Meet and Greet at the Brea Mall in California. And the Dobre Brothers' responded to it.
Let's rewind.
James tweeted out a clip with this comment below:
I "We just wanted to apologize. After a long 48 hours of restless filming and touring then meeting thousands of fans with no sleep we were exhausted by the end of our show. Our true apologies ❤️ we are sincerely sorry."
[This is an exact replica of the Lucas Dobre, one of the Dobre Brothers' apology tweet towards the controversy.]
The clip is a parody of the Dobre Brothers' Meet and Greet. There, James and his friends purposely didn't smile, greet or strike any conversation to the excited fan who arrived to meet them.
As the fan was awkwardly walked off after taking a picture, James burst out laughing and ran to hug her.
This parodies the Dobre Brother's Meet and Greet where the brothers, Lucas, Marcus and Darius didn't smile or talk to their fans during the event. It quickly went viral, and James was one of the celebrities who slammed them for it.
They have since apologised for it, as seen in James' parodied tweet.
However, after James' tweeted out the parody, Lucas Dobre responded to it almost immediately:
I "We all make mistakes but it’s up to us to own up to our mistakes and make things right when God gives us a second chance 🙏🏼 We love you Kylee ❤️ And James... I’m sure you know what it’s like feeling like the whole world is against you"
Attached to the tweet is a clip. In it, Kylie, the same girl who was in the clip that went viral in the Dobre Brothers' Meet and Greet, was reinvited. The Dobre brothers reenacted the entire scenario where they didn't smile or greet her, up until the picture is taken when they all get up and greet her with huge smiles and a group hug.
What were the fans' reactions?
Fans accused James of being unempathetic since he had previously been in a similar situation where he was in a negative light in the public eye. These fans are referring to the Tati Westbrook controversy earlier this year in May.
They also defended the Dobre brothers, stating that the fans who are slamming the brothers forget that "everyone is human" and they'd like to see these fans try to stay up for 48 hours and still be able to smile. Not only that, but they commended the brothers for owning up to their mistakes and trying to amend it.
On the other hand, others thought that the Dobre brothers deserved the shade because although they made it up to that particular fan, it was only to that one fan. They pointed out the other hundreds of fans who'd attended previously were still left disappointed. They also claimed that the reason the Dobre Brothers made the video was because of the major backlash they were facing.
However, it doesn't seem like the Dobre Brothers are holding any bad blood with James, because an hour later, Darius and Lucas both tweeted out the results from the Gradient app (which matches you to the celebrity you most look like), and they both happened to match with James Charles!
