On February 18, Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard (Mike) revealed that students at his school freaked out when they realized he attended the same high school as them.

In an interview with “q on cbc”, Finn explained that he was "lucky" to experience high school as much as he did.

"I was so lucky. I got to go to high school and have as much of a high school experience as I could have."

He attended St. Patrick Regional Secondary School in Vancouver. However, Finn stated that after the show became popular, things in school were "different".

"I started doing Stranger Things when I was in Grade 8. I did 6 months of Grade 8, and then I left and did 6 months in Atlanta shooting Stranger Things. I came back for Grade 9 and the show was out. It was very different."

Finn explained that he was treated "differently" after Stranger Things, and students who he had never spoken to before would come up to him and ask for pictures.

"I was treated different. Kids that I had never spoken to were coming up to me and asking me for pictures and stuff like that. It was crazy."

However, the students would get used to him pretty soon, although each new academic year brought new Grade 8 students who would freak out when they saw him.

"I would say they got used to it early on. I had an amazing school but the funniest part [...] was going back for Grade 12 and the Grade 8s didn’t know that I went to school."

"They didn’t know [I went there] and so people kind of freaked out when they found out that I was there and it was pretty funny."

Finn explains how the young students would be "speechless" and do a "double take" as they ask each other if he was actually the Finn Wolfhard!

"I walked past them and they did a double take. I was in their same uniform and they were just totally speechless and running up to each other like, 'Is that him? Is that the guy? Does he go to our school?' So they would run up and almost look if I was real or not. Like [am I] an entity or a ghost?"

Meanwhile, Finn managed to keep the same set of friends from before his Stranger Things' fame and throughout its success. Despite his newly found popularity, he hadn't made any new friends.

"What’s great is I had the same kind of set friends from high school. [...] I went to school with the same kind of core group of friends, 4-5 people. And then I came back and thank god I still had those same people. I really didn't make friends with anyone else."

However, there were times where he was jealous of his friends and their normal high school lives. Finn admitted that he was especially jealous during his Grade 9-10 years because of all the stories he would hear about the "house parties" his friends attended.

"Yeah, early on I was [jealous]. Grade 9 I was. Grade 10 I was. [...] I’d hear friends party stories, house party stories or whatever. At first I’d get a little, 'Oh man, I wish I was there.'"

However, Finn soon realized that he loved his job and that in reality, he didn't really like "being in a classroom". He explained that he just "couldn't sit still" and "focus" on subjects that he wasn't interested in.

"And then I kind of started to figure out that I really, really liked what I was doing."

"There’s a reason why I don’t like being in a classroom. I loved my school and I loved a lot of my teachers but I [...] couldn’t sit still and I couldn’t really focus on things that didn’t interest me."

"As I got older, I was like, I don’t give a s***. I love my job too much to not do that. Now I’m in a position where I’m out of school and I can have a lot of life experience that isn’t that kind of thing. And I’m totally proud of it and I can live vicariously."

Finn has since graduated from high school in June 2020 and has given a speech as an alumni.

Fun fact: Finn Wolfhard revealed that English was his best subject and received A's in the class.

In other news, Finn is being light-heartedly teased for his hair in Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) yet again by his co-stars.
