On December 10, Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard (Mike) uploaded an Instagram Story asking fans to support indie film, The Scars of Ali Boulala, on Kickstarter.
In the Instagram Story, Finn posts:
I "Let's help see this one through."
With Finn's help, the indie film managed to reach their goal of €35,000, reaching a total of €35,272 with 305 backers on December 31.
Thanking fans for their support, The Scars of Ali Boulala posted on Instagram:
I "WE DID IT!!! We reached our goal on Kickstarter with 5 hours to spare 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Thank you all so much for contributing if you have already."
I "A finished film is on its way!!! [...] THANK YOU ALL FOR BRIGHTENING UP OUR 2020 💥🌟📽️🎄🌹LOVE from everyone on the film team ❤️"
The film is set to release this year in 2021.
So what exactly is The Scars of Ali Boulala about?
The documentary feature film is about Ali Boulala, an "eccentric and fearless skateboarder of his time" in the late 1990s. It focuses on the rise and fall of Ali and his life as he recovers from his drug and alcohol addiction, with interviews from Ali's family and Ali's famous friends, Arto Saari, Ewan Bowman Dustin Dollin, Erik Ellington, Kevin "Spanky" Long and Rune Glifberg.
The film is directed by Max Eriksson and produced by Sisyfos Film Production with Folk Film AS as co-producer.
The Scars of Ali Boulala took 8 years to create. It all began when Max Eriksson met Ali in a Swedish bar.
Fun Fact: In an Instagram post, The Scars Of Ali Boulala asked fans whether Finn Wolfhard, Timothée Chalamet or Cate Blanchett should portray Ali "in a fictional movie of his life".
Finn Wolfhard is no stranger to crowdfunded indie films.
Back in December 2019, Finn wrote and directed a short film, Night Shifts, which was crowdfunded through Indiegogo. It raised over $20,000 in just 24 hours and finally reached $28,456 CAD.
Finn thanked fans, saying:
I "Hey, guys. So, I directed a short film. [...] I just wanted to thank everyone so, so much. It was such an incredible shoot, and I just want to thank everyone who came out and helped."
I "And also, especially the people who backed it, and put their actual money into it. It just means so much that a lot of you would do that."
Stranger Things season 4 is currently filming.
