On January 10, Stranger Things' Finn Wolfhard (Mike) revealed that his short film "Night Shifts" will premiere on YouTube "very soon".
Let's rewind.
For those who don't know, Finn directed and wrote a short film "Night Shifts" back in early 2020. It's a dark comedy about "how people come in and out of your lives and nothing's the same ever after high school". It was crowdfunded on Indiegogo, raising a total of $28,456 CAD.
During a Fanmio Meet and Greet, Finn gave an update on Night Shifts and where fans will be able to watch it.
Check out Finn's response below:
I "We’re in the middle right now of getting it online for everyone to see so hopefully in the next month you’ll get to see it in YouTube. You’ll definitely be able to get to see it very soon."
What was the inspiration behind Finn's short film "Night Shifts"?
Finn reveals that his inspiration came from the director of Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021), Jason Reitman.
I "My main inspiration came from the director Jason Reitman who I worked with, who’s the director for the new Ghostbusters movie."
I "I wanted to write a short and he’s the one who told me to write a short just for two characters, and so I did that because of him."
When a fan asks Finn if he has any tips for directing, he advises that the best way to learn is to get a job on set to see how films are made firsthand.
I "I get to be on set a lot as an actor so I get to learn a lot about directing first hand kind of. And I have a lot friends that have gone to school for film and it’s been amazing for them."
I "There’s also getting a job on set too, as a PA or just anything. You get to just see how films are being made. I recommend [...] however you can learn about film, try to do it. Being on a real set, there’s nothing else like it."
Will Finn be directing any more shorts?
Finn reveals that he's currently "in the middle of figuring out" another movie that he co-wrote. He adds that he is hoping that he'll be able to find a financial backer for the movie.
I "I really really want to. I’m in the middle of figuring out this other film that I co wrote. It’s a movie. So hopefully someone will give us money to make that, I would love that."
I "I would love to make more things and movies."
What genres is Finn hoping to direct in the future?
Finn tells fans that he would "love to make all kinds of different films" one day, including horrors and comedies.
I "I love situational comedy. I like awkward comedy because I always feel really awkward. So that will be fun to make one day. I love horror too, because obviously I’ve been in a lot of horror movies and stuff like that. So I’d love to make one myself one day. But I’d love to make all kinds of different films."
Fun fact: Finn's goal is to have a "filmmaking company" one day.
Stranger Things season 4 is currently filming. Stranger Things season 1-3 is available to stream on Netflix.
