A 51 seconds clip that was uploaded on Twitter on 27 August shows the Stranger Things' star, Finn Wolfhard, being booed and harassed by the crowd.

 

Yep.

 

It seems like Finn just can't catch a break.

The first half of the clip is Finn at the IT Chapter Two premiere, and the second half is Finn at the 2019 Independent Spirit Awards. Both events are pretty big, and it should have been an enjoyable night for Finn...

 

But unfortunately, the crowd just had to be rude.

 

Let's rewind.

 

In the first half of the clip, Finn is seen coming into view of the crowd. When the fans, who were most likely waiting there for a while, caught sight of the Stranger Things' star, they immediately started calling his name and yelling out their greetings.

 

But that's when it all goes downhill.

 

Because when Finn didn't turn towards them - which could have been for multiple reasons...

 

1) He was pretty far away from the crowd and might've not even heard...

2) He was being led away by security personnel who was keeping him at a brisk pace...

3) He was busy talking with some people who had his attention...

 

Anyway, the crowd decided to start booing. Very loudly.

 

Of course, we understand why Finn didn't turn after the boos started. Because who would?

 

And that's the end of the story -

 

Nope. It didn't exactly end there.

 

Because when Finn decided to not react to the 'boos', a man's voice (most likely a paparazzi) can be heard saying:

 

I“Finn hates all of you guys. Finn hates his fans.”

He didn't even stop there. The man continued to rudely mimic Finn's voice, saying "I have curly hair, dammit".

 

That's right. A grown man was mimicking a child.

 

And a similar thing happens in the second half of the clip. Finn appears and grown men, again probably paparazzi, shouts his name, then proceeds to get angry when Finn doesn't look over.

 

And this was despite it being obvious that Finn was busy talking to One Direction's Niall Horan and Hereditary’s Alex Wolff.

 

But that clearly didn't matter to the furious men who continued to yell at him. Then one man's voice was heard when he suddenly said, "You're an asshole."

 

That was directed at Finn,

 

And if that wasn't rude enough as it is, the men around him laughed.

​

A man calling a child an "asshole"? The boos? The mimicking? This isn't right. No one deserves to be treated this way, let alone a child. And this is being shouted by grown men.

 

This is definitely harassment and lines were definitely crossed, wouldn't you say? And we feel for Finn, and it's awful that he has to deal with this on a daily basis. It's no wonder he has social anxiety and why he's so cautious whenever he has to deal with the public. Who can blame him?

 

And unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that Finn had been booed.

 

In an interview with E News during the Stranger Things' season 2 premiere, Finn spoke to the interviewer about how he had gotten booed during his entrance:

 

I“I got booed. Yeah, there’s a giant group of lined up 'fans' [Finn air quotes this] that liked, booed me.”

​

 

But even then, Finn took it in stride, saying that it was fine.

​

I“It’s fine ‘cause they’ve all [got] stuff to sign, and I’m like, “I don’t know…” But it’s fine. That’s not ruining the night, so...”

​

 

It’s amazing to see that Finn is handling all this maturely for his age, but we can’t help but feel that he shouldn’t have to be dealing with this in the first place.

 

This type of paparazzi and crowd behaviour has got to be called out, and maybe, just maybe, these adults will finally be embarrassed by their behaviour.
