On June 3, Descendant's Dove Cameron responded to a concerned fan's tweet about being "shadowbanned" on Twitter. This comes two days after American singer-songwriter Halsey questioned the same thing about herself.
First of all, check out the fan's tweet below:
I "@DoveCameron i think you're shaddowbanned because i didn't get any notifications from your retweets , so if you post more information it might not reach a lot of people like yesterday. its happened to some other accounts so its obviously a bigger force making sure we stay silent"
On the same day, Dove quickly tweeted out:
I "oh sh*t really ? any one else"
Although some fans are still receiving notifications from Dove's social media accounts, it appears that the majority haven't been receiving them.
I "i literally did not get this and have your notifs on"
I "i didn't got your notifs, but this happening to a lot of us so hopefully this will be fixed soon!"
I "me! haven’t seen a single one of your retweets today except for when i directly went to your account"
So, why might Dove Cameron and other celebrities be shadowbanned on Twitter?
Fans have theorised that this might be because Dove had been participating and tweeting out in support of George Floyd. This ranged from joining a peaceful protest on June 1 in Floyd's memory with her boyfriend, Thomas Doherty, to putting "petitions links, protester resources, donation links" in her Instagram bio.
A fan also tweeted out that American singer-songwriter, Halsey, might have also been shadowbanned, claiming that it might be the result of "being vocal about protests"
Check out this fan's tweet below:
I "this happened to halsey too as soon as she started being vocal about the protests Imfao that's literally taking away your freedom of speech"
On June 1, Halsey had tweeted out this:
I "I think they shadowbanned my account. Some people saying it "vanished" or they can't find it. Can you see this tweet"
Recently, Halsey attended a protest in Los Angeles. She detailed her experience in social media, condemning the police for their violence which involved them firing rubber bullets and gassing the protesters, despite the protesters obediently following instructions.
