On February 11, Dixie D’Amelio clarifies to confused fans that Charli is not rapping in her new song.
Let's rewind.
On February 4 in a podcast titled "CHARLI AND DIXIE: 2 CHIX", Dixie announced that Charli was going to be featured in her new song. At the time, Dixie revealed that Charli had attended a recording studio session with her and "rapped" in her new song.
I "Charli came with me to the recording studio and she actually rapped on my song. It was really good. [...] Charli has a little part in, I think it’s the next song I’m doing, I’m not sure yet, but what did you think about going into the studio?"
Charli said the experience was "cool" and "fun" and added that she didn't actually "sing" but "chit-chatted".
I "I thought it was really cool. It was really fun. I didn’t actually sing anything, we just chit-chatted which was super fun. It’s a little scary because I tend to be a little bit more quiet and I had to speak up."
Dixie also revealed that they had to be "super animated" and "super catty" in their exclamations for the recording, but didn't give anything else away.
I "And we had to be super animated because we’re trying to - I don’t want to give away too much - but we’re trying to be super catty, [gossipy]. So we had to do super, 'Oh my god!'"
After the podcast, fans assumed that Charli was going to be rapping in Dixie's new song, and the news spread quickly on social media.
Fast forward and on February 11, Dixie cleared up the confusion amongst fans by saying that Charli is "not rapping" in her new song.
I "[It had] gotten taken out of context [...] Charli is not rapping."
In the week's podcast, Charli explained that it was just "a joke", and that she didn't think people would actually believe that she was going to rap. She clarified that it was just a "three seconds [...] speaking line" and condemned all the hateful comments she received because of it.
I "I made a joke and people were like, 'Wow, Charli really has to take over everything, why can't she let Dixie have her music career. And now she has to rap?'”
I "I have like a three seconds [...] speaking line in one of her songs that’s not even out yet so how can you guys be mad?[...] Y’all really think I'm going to be rapping? [...] If you really think that I’m going to start my rap career, that’s on you. Who would believe that?"
