On October 31, Stranger Things’ Dacre Montgomery (Billy) announced to fans on Instagram the debut of his new short dance film NIGHTMARES.
First of all, what exactly is NIGHTMARES?
Basically, it's a short contemporary dance film that was inspired by and set to his podcast track, ‘NIGHTMARES’ ft Matt Lange (@matt_lange). It lasts 3 minutes and 26 seconds which you can watch on Vimeo or YouTube.
Fans loved it, praising Dacre's "creativity" on NIGHTMARES. They highlighted the video's "simplicity and beauty" and how it "ties in perfectly with the poem".
Another fan, an aspiring film director, applauded it, stating how it's a "hauntingly mesmerising, astounding cinematic masterpiece", and crediting Dacre for being their inspiration.
So, what's next for Dacre?
Well, NIGHTMARES is a complimentary short film to another project Dacre is currently doing.
The other project? It's titled IN VITRO and it's Dacre's first film that he wrote and directed. The trailer can be seen on his Instagram account on September 22.
On the Instagram post, Dacre writes:
"Here’s the trailer for my first film - IN VITRO. Also my first time writing/directing. It has been the most creatively fulfilling experience - to collaborate with some of my best friends and the most amazing crew."
"What a rewarding journey it is to birth a story and see it come to life from inception to completion. To build a narrative and construct a landscape, a unique pallet of colours and characters."
Dacre also reveals that IN VITRO is a story close to his heart and that it needs far longer than just "5 minutes of exposition". The song in the trailer is credited to Jason Chung, best known as Nosaj Thing (@nosajthing).
What is DKMH?
Dacre also has a podcast, DKMH, that currently has 6 episodes between 2-6 minutes long and is “beat poetry set to music”. Dacre explains that the podcast is a “depiction of what drives me and how much my experiences have shaped who I am.”
