On February 7, Netflix uploaded a YouTube video titled "Five vs. Eleven | The Umbrella Academy & Stranger Things Kid Showdown", and fans are debating who would win.
For those who don't know, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is a 14-year-old teenager with psychokinetic/telekinesis, telepathic abilities and extrasensory perception (ESP). The co-creator of Stranger Things Ross Duffer had labelled Eleven as a "mass murderer",
Meanwhile, Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) is a genius 58-year-old trained assassin trapped in a 13-year-old body with the ability to manipulate space and time, and in the comics, has called himself the "perfect killer".
How did fans react?
Fans highlighted how powerful Eleven's abilities are, stating that she herself is a "weapon". These fans suggest that Eleven could easily "immobilise" Five with her telekinesis.
I "[Eleven] would win she could literally rip him to shreds while [Five] could only run away and fight with weapons and she IS a weapon"
I "Eleven all the way💗she has powers and can move stuff with her MIND she can just like throw him around, has anyone seen her with the MINDFLAYER! If she can throw around the mind flayer she obviously wouldn’t have a problem with anything else but also El only fights bad people and etc."
I "it's very possible for Eleven to immobilise Five through a quick telekinetic knock out, or if the circumstances are real desperate and it is kill or be killed, she's exploded peoples brains before."
However, the majority of fans pointed out that Five is essentially an adult in a child's body. Combined with his genius-level intellect, Eleven would be duelling someone who is more "experienced, older and far more cunning".
I "[Eleven] would be dealing with someone who is arguably more powerful (or at least just as powerful), but also more experienced, older and far more cunning. Five is basically a genius on top of being a super powered person."
I "Five isn't even a child. He's a grown man who's now stuck in a kid's body. He has the maturity and skills of an adult. El doesn't. So you're kinda right imo, he would easily outsmart and overpower El if they were in a battle."
One fan also broadly details a potential fight between Eleven and Five.
I "First off, Five is a trained assassin, and Eleven really only has the advantage of her telekinesis in a battle. Five could easily teleport behind Eleven, snap her neck, and the battle would be over. If Eleven severely injures Five, he would be able to turn back time by a few seconds and try again. overall, I believe Five could easily win in a fight between him and Eleven."
This is just a friendly debate, of course, and fans just love the two together with many saying that they would "make a phenomenal duo".
Fun fact: Fans often tie the two universes together as the protagonists have names as numbers.
Meanwhile, Aidan Gallagher (Number Five) also reposted a screenshot of the video "Five vs. Eleven | The Umbrella Academy & Stranger Things Kid Showdown" to his Instagram account.
In the description, Aidan writes:
I "Netflix wants to know, who would win? Check out the video and let them know! Comment your theories! ☕️"
Aidan then hilariously references a line that he once said to his siblings:
I "What part of time travel does Netflix not understand?! 🪓"
The Umbrella Academy season 3 has officially begun filming. The Umbrella Academy season 1-2 is available for streaming on Netflix.
