On September 20, The Umbrella Academy's Aidan Gallagher (Number Five) revealed to fans just how long it took to film the iconic "Five vs The Commission Board" scene in The Umbrella Academy season 2.
Let's rewind.
Ever since The Umbrella Academy season 2 hit Netflix on July 31, fans have been gathering a list of iconic scenes, several of which involved Number Five (Aidan).
Basically, the list includes the scenes, "I'm the Daddy here!", "Vanya, Do Not Test Me Right Now", and finally, "Five vs The Commission Board", amongst other scenes.
So how was it to film the "Number Five vs The Commission Board" scene?
In a video titled, "Q&A PART 2 (SEPTEMBER)" that Aidan Gallagher uploaded to his official YouTube channel, Aidan reveals to fans that the entire scene took about three days to film as it was split into "three parts".
I "Maybe three days? The reason for that is it's three parts anyways. It starts off with Five walking through a hallway and attacking a vending machine and grabbing the axe."
I "Then there's the moment when Five goes insane and starts slaughtering the commission like he's Jack Nicholson in 'The Shining'. And there's the aftermath of [Five] chasing down and taking out Carmichael."
Aidan then explains that the axe in the hallway scene was actually at a different location in Toronto, hence adding to the length of the shoot.
I "It may have been two or three days to shoot because the hallway is a location. That's actually a real place that you have to drive out to Toronto to go to. The room where he actually slaughters the Commission is a set."
I "I guess it was just easier, we were gonna tear it apart, get it all bloody so it was just easier if it was a controlled environment. And then I guess the third day was reshoots. They shot where it's looking at me, that's the set. So yeah, three days. It took three days."
So, what exactly are the best scenes in The Umbrella Academy season 2?
Basically, according to fans, the list involves the scene where Five is suffering from paradox psychosis. This, coupled with his irritation with Luther and his "daddy issues", had caused Five to shout out his now famous-line, "I'm the Daddy here!", much to the bewilderment of passer-bys.
Next up, is the face-off with Vanya, in the "Vanya, Do Not Test Me Right Now" scene where Vanya refuses to leave without Sissy and Harlan, much to Five's anger. And for a second, it almost looked like a fight between the two strongest siblings were about to break out.
And, finally, the iconic axe scene, "Five vs the Commission Board", in which Five makes a deal with the Handler in a desperate bid to get him and his siblings back to 2019. This scene perfectly displayed just how lethal Five can be.
Fun fact: "I'm the Daddy here!" scene had 1 million views, "Number Five vs The Commission Board" had 1.1 million views and the "Vanya, Do Not Test Me Right Now " scene had 1.9 million views on YouTube.
Umbrella Academy seasons 1 and 2 can be streamed on Netflix.
